4-Year-Old Child Killed, Mother Critically Injured After Being Run Over In Westchester

A 4-year-old girl was killed and her mother was injured after being struck by a driver while crossing the street in Westchester.

Officials said that Megan Gouvea De Freitas and her mother, Josiana Gouvea, 42, were struck by a car at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5 in Mount Vernon near the intersection of North Street and North 5th Avenue.

The mother and her child were reportedly struck while crossing the street.

The De Freitas was pronounced dead at the scene and her mother was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The driver, 60-year-old Mount Vernon resident Gus Holloway, remained at the scene, police noted. No charges have been filed against him.
